15 vehicles vandalized in Chandpur

BNP activists vandalized 15 small and big vehicles on the Chandpur-Comilla regional highway after the announcement of the 12th National Assembly election schedule on Wednesday. 

The incident took place at Ghosherhat and PalliBidyut areas of Shah Mahmudpur Union of Sadar Upazila around 8pm on Wednesday.

According to the police and locals, after the election schedule was announced, the district Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and BNP leaders started protesting on the road around 8pm. They vandalized at least 15 vehicles including autorickshaws, pickups, covered vans, easy bikes, and motorcycles plying on the Chandpur-Comilla Regional Highway. A driver and some passengers were injured during their reckless rampage.

After receiving the information, Additional Superintendent of Police Sudipta Roy, Chandpur Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Md Mohsin Alam and local Awami League leaders and activists went to the spot.

Masud Hossain, an eyewitness, said: “Traffic on the highway was stopped for a long time after the incident. Chhatra League activists helped along with the police to bring the situation under control.”

Chandpur Police Superintendent (SP) Mohammad Saiful Islam said: “BNP leaders vandalized 10-15 cars in Ghosherhat and Palli Bidyut area of ​​Chandpur-Comilla regional highway after the schedule was announced. We sent police there to normalize the traffic. BGB members are on patrol as well.”
