Cox's Bazar has added a new jewel to its tourism crown with the inauguration of the railway station, bringing a unique sculpture and modern amenities for travellers.
The iconic oyster-shaped railway station features a pearl inside, welcoming passengers through an oyster fountain entrance.
The upcoming Cox's Bazar Railway Station, situated on 29 acres of land in the Hajipara area of Jhelongja Union, seven kilometres east-north of Cox's Bazar Sadar, epitomizes architectural excellence.
Its grand design, mirroring the exoskeletal structure of an oval-shaped marine creature, features a curved canopy ascending from one side and descending to the other. The station premises are designed to encompass a comprehensive array of amenities and services.
A pedestrian bridge, formed by moving stairs, connects to the train, allowing passengers to disembark and head towards the tourist town. The eastern side boasts an 80-foot-long pedestrian bridge with three separate moving stairs, catering to the needs of the elderly and disabled. On the north side, three platforms with seating have been constructed, providing waiting passengers with comfort.
Officials of the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar Railway project said that the main building's ground floor houses ticket counters, reception rooms, lockers, information centres, mosques, children's entertainment areas, passenger lounges, and footbridges.
The second floor accommodates shopping malls, childcare centres, and restaurants.
The third floor boasts a 39-room star hotel, while the fourth floor houses a restaurant, childcare centre, conference hall, and officers' offices.
The first-of-its-kind railway station offers a glimpse of the sea and promises a delightful experience with modern facilities.
Built in a unique style, the station aims to cater to both local and foreign tourists. Situated at Hajipara in Jhelongja union, 5km from Cox's Bazar city, the railway station is part of the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar Railway project. Travellers can take morning trains from Dhaka or Chittagong, arriving in Cox's Bazar in the afternoon to explore the beach and return by night train. The station provides locker facilities for valuables and accommodations for those opting to stay.
On November 7, the first train on the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway line arrived at the iconic Cox's Bazar railway station.
Prime Minister Sheikh is expected to inaugurate the much anticipated Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar Rail Line on Saturday, but it will be opened to traffic on December 1.
