An angry mob set fire to a bus after it collided with a battery-run easy bike, leaving two people dead and four others injured on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj.
The incident took place when the easy bike was headed to Muksudpur from Kashiani with five passengers and collided with a Khulna-bound Dola Paribahan bus that was attempting to overtake another bus.
The deceased have been identified as Ranu Begum, 60, and Hayat Ali Sheikh, 65. Both were residents of Maheshpur union.
The injured are Ful Miah, 45, Lamiya, 15, Zabeda, 45, and Khuki Begum, 47.
Bhanga Highway police station Sub-Inspector Md Abu Noman said: “When the bus attempted to flee after the accident, an enraged mob chased it and set it on fire, resulting in a one-kilometre traffic jam on both sides of the highway. More than 100 vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.”
Later, members of the local fire service arrived at the scene and doused the flames.
The injured were transported to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex.
