A case has been filed in connection with the deaths of three police constables, who were killed when a train rammed into a police van at a level crossing in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Sunday.
The case was filed against the railway gateman Shahriar Mahmud Dipu on Sunday night.
Sub-Inspector Samiur Rahman, in-charge of Faujdarhat Police Outpost under Sitakunda police station, filed the case with the Chittagong Railway police station as the plaintiff.
The matter was confirmed by Tofayel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Faruq Hossain of Chittagong Railway police station has been assigned the responsibility of investigating the case.
He said a case has been filed and the railway gateman Dipu has been accused in the case.
“He is still absconding. I will be able to provide further details once we are done investigating,” he said.
Three police constables were killed and two others were injured as a train rammed into a police van.
The deceased were Mohammad Hossain, Mizanur Rahman and Iskandar Ali Mollah, all of whom were police constables stationed at Sitakunda police station.
The incident took place at the Fakirhat level crossing, said Tofayel Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda police station.
Chittagong Railway Station Manager Ratan Chowdhury confirmed that the inter-city Sonar Bangla Express arrived at the station at 12:20pm following the incident, adding that there was no disruption in services due to the incident.
Additionally, three people including a local union parishad member sustained injuries in the accident.
After the accident, it was found that gateman Dipu was absent at the time of the collision. In addition, no safety barriers were placed before the train arrived.
The Bangladesh Railway (East Zone) has formed a four-member probe committee and instructed them to submit a report within seven days.
