Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the bus driver accused in a case filed over the Jhalakathi bus accident that left 17 passengers dead on Sunday.
The accused driver Mohon Khan of was arrested from Ashulia on Tuesday night, RAB's Legal and Media Wing Assistant Director ANM Imran Khan confirmed the matter.
RAB will hold a press conference in this regard at noon, said the RAB official.
Meanwhile, the wing's director, Khandaker Al Moin, said Mohon used to drive heavy vehicles despite being issued a licence for driving light vehicles.
Earlier, RAB arrested the bus supervisor Faisal Howlader Mizan, 30, of Nalchity upazila of Jhalakathi, from the Rajapur area of the same district on Monday night.
On Sunday night, SI Sushankar of Jhalakathi Sadar police station filed the case against bus driver Mohan Khan, 40, his assistant Akash, 17, and supervisor Mizan, 30.
Earlier on Saturday, at least 17 people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured after a bus plunged into a roadside pond in the Chhatrakanda area of Jhalakathi Sadar upazila.
The Barisal-bound bus from Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur fell into the pond near the local union parishad office at around 9:55am. The driver was attempting to make way for an auto rickshaw on Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional road, Jhalakathi Sadar police station OC Nasir Uddin said.
Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee, formed by the local administration, revealed on Sunday that the driver did not have a licence to operate heavy vehicles.
