The prime accused in a case over the killing of a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member during the third phase UP polls at Garagram union in Nilphamari district was arrested on Monday night.
The arrestee was identified as Md Maruf Hossain alias Auntik, son of Mosaddek Hossain who was chairman of the union parishad for 19 years.
After his father’s death in 2017, Maruf was elected the UP chairman.
In November 28, during the vote counting at the Pashcim Daliram Majhpara Government School polling centre a BGB member Nayek Rubel Hossain was killed during a clash.
Upon the complaint of Presiding Officer of the center Lalit Chandra, a murder case was filed with the Kishorganj police station accusing 95 people and some more anonymous people. .
During a drive on Monday night in Dhaka’s Ashulia area Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB) arrested the accused Maruf.
During primary interrogation, Maruf reportedly confessed to planning an attack on the day of election at the centre.
The arrestee said he did it to win the election by securing all votes, said RAB-4 in a press release.
