At least four people were killed and three injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a battery-powered autorickshaw on the Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway.
The incident took place in Jamalpur's Ranagacha union area on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Solaiman, 55, Abdul Majid, 48, autorickshaw driver Zainal, and Shahed Ali.
The injured are Hanif, 58, Shafiqul, 55, Khalil, 60.
All of the deceased and injured are residents of Jamalpur.
According to locals, several Muslim devotees were going to a mosque in a neighboring village on an auto-rickshaw on Friday afternoon to offer Jummah prayer.
After the autorickshaw entered the Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the vehicle. This caused the autorickshaw to fall into a nearby paddy field.
Jamalpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Shahnewaz said that the truck has been seized but its driver managed to flee from the scene.
A case has been filed in Jamalpur Sadar police station.
