Woman shot dead in Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camp

A Rohingya woman was shot dead by bandits while two other women sustained gunshot injuries in the C-Block of Nayapara camp in Teknaf in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased is Jamila Begum, 30, daughter of Md Hossain of Nayapara Mouchni Rohingya camp in Teknaf. Monira, 45, and Noor Fatema, 26, residents of the same camp, were shot.

Mohammad Jamal Pasha, superintendent of police (media) of the 16-Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in charge of Teknaf Rohingya Camp, said that 10-15 members of the bandit Salman Shah group attacked Monira's house in C-Block of Nayapara camp with weapons. At that time, they fired indiscriminately leaving one dead while two others injured.

They were initially taken to the camp health centre and later sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital as their condition worsened, he added.

He said: “We believe that this incident has happened due to the spread of dominance in the camp. An operation is underway to catch the attackers.”
