Mymensingh turns festive ahead of PM Hasina’s visit

A festive atmosphere is pervading Mymensingh ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit on Saturday. 

To welcome Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League chief, who is scheduled to address a rally at the Mymensingh circuit house ground, the city has been adorned with vibrant posters, festoons and banners.

Awami League leaders and activists are expecting at least a million people from Mymensingh, Netrokona, Sherpur and Jamalpur to attend the gathering, which will be presided over by Mymensingh Awami League President Ehteshamul Alam.

Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate 23 projects worth Tk570 crore during her upcoming visit to Mymensingh.

The premier will also lay the foundation stone for 14 more development projects in the district. The projects worth Tk2,762 crore include the development of the road and drainage network of Mymensingh and the construction of seven regional offices for the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, among others. 

Awami League leaders and activists from various districts and upazilas started marching to the ground with processions in the morning to make the premier's visit and public rally a success.

Women in colourful sarees and men in monochromatic t-shirts and caps were flocking to the ground playing musical instruments. 

Bangabandhu's speech has been playing at the venue since morning. 

Security has been beefed up around the city to prevent untoward incidents.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting Mymensingh for the first time in four and a half years. She last came to the city on November 2, 2018.
