Melandah Upazila Awami League Leader Principal Abu Sayed Sada has paid tribute to language martyrs without taking off his shoes on International Mother Language Day in Melandah Upazila of Jamalpur District.
The incident has created mixed reactions in different circles.
Abu Saeed Sada, the principal of Mahmudpur Abdul Jalil Technical College, paid tribute to Shaheed Minar of Mahmudpur Bahumukhi High School in the upazila on Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses said that in the morning Principal Abu Sayeed Sada went to Shaheed Minar along with teachers and students to pay respect to language heroes. At this time, he went up to the stairs of Shaheed Minar with his shoes and paid the floral wreath.
When he was contacted over the mobile phone about this, he said it was his mistake.
“I couldn't notice due to the rush,” he said, urging to consider the matter positively.
Ali Imam Dulal, president of Jamalpur Language and Liberation War Research Centre, said: "It is not right to walk on Shaheed Minar with shoes on. It is officially prohibited. He said that there is also a provision of punishment against the one who commits this.”
In this regard, District Education Officer Monira Mustari Eva said over mobile phone that if he made such a mistake while paying tribute to the martyrs of the great language, then he has committed a serious crime. It is unforgivable.
