Police have arrested a college student for vandalizing a Liberation War monument at Dumki upazila of Patuakhali.
The college student, Shariatullah, was sent to Patuakhali jail by the court on Saturday afternoon, reports Bangla Tribune.
On Friday, freedom fighter Syed Golam Mortaza filed a complaint with Dumki police in this connection.
Police arrested Shariatullah on Friday, confirmed Dumki police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahbub Alam.
According to the police and local sources, Shariatullah climbed on top of the Liberation War monument in Joy Bangla Chattar of Dumki upazila complex, disfigured a part and threw it on the ground on Friday night.
Hearing the noise, the security personnel of the upazila parishad and the officers of the quarter arrested him.
Later, Dumki Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Saifur Rahman handed him over to the police.
