Shivering cold, thick fog grip residents of Madaripur

Residents of Madaripur district, especially the poor, have been suffering due to the sudden low temperature, and dense fog that has been gripping Bangladesh since the last three days.

Locals of the district said they cannot get out of their houses as the fog disrupts the visibility on the roads. They also noted that the streets are covered in dense fog from 9am to 10am for the last few days.

Many were seen burning straws to keep themselves warm on Sunday morning, reports Bangla Tribune.

Mofiz Dhali, a farmer from Char Janajat area of Shibchar, said: "It has been extremely cold and foggy for several days. Due to the fog, I cannot get out of my house for work before 12pm. This has reduced our earnings.”

Mujahid, a CNG-run autorickshaw driver said: "I wake up early and wait on the roads. The fog is so dense that headlights do not help that much either. We have been suffering a lot due to this.”

According to Shibchar highway police station sources, the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway is covered in fog.

For that reason, limited traffic movements were seen during the morning on the local roads as well.

“Very few vehicles were spotted since morning on Sunday. Nothing can be seen even at a short distance on the expressway. The traffic started to increase after 10 am, as the fog subsided,” said Shibchar highway police station Sub-Inspector Abdullah Baki.
