Buses searched in Tangail ahead of BNP rally

Police are carrying out search at Elenga in Tangail on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway and the entry to North Bengal ahead of BNP's divisional rally in Dhaka on Saturday.

On Friday morning, passenger buses leaving from different districts of North Bengal were stopped, passengers were interrogated and documents of the buses checked.

Passengers and drivers said that the number of passenger buses on the highway was lesser than other days, causing distress to the commuters.

However, apart from buses, the movement of other vehicles including cargo trucks was normal.

In this regard, district traffic inspector (north) Rafiqul Islam Sarkar said: “This is our regular activity. A fine of around Tk40,000 was collected from Friday morning to noon due to lack of valid vehicle documents. A fine of around Tk1 lakh was collected on Thursday.”

Meanwhile, Kalihati upazila Awami League is scheduled to hold a rally on Friday afternoon in Elenga to protest the anarchy and terrorist activities of BNP, said Kalihati upazila Awami League President Mojaharul Islam Thandu.
