The father of five-year-old Alina Islam Ayat, who was murdered after going missing in Chittagong's EPZ police station area, has reportedly received death threats.
“Your daughter has been cut into six pieces, if you overdo it, the relatives including the father will be cut into 12 pieces,” reads a message received from an unknown number.
Ayat's father Sohel Rana made this claim on Friday afternoon.
He said: "I have lost my only daughter. Now, an unknown number is threatening me by sending messages on my WhatsApp number. I am afraid for my family because of this. The matter has been informed to law enforcers.”
Sohel also said: “Is it only Abir Ali who killed my daughter in such a brutal way? There can also be a gang behind the incident. It is necessary to investigate it. Otherwise, why are we being threatened to keep from seeking justice for my daughter's murder?'
Dismembered body parts of five-year-old Alina Islam Ayat were recovered from the drain adjacent to Sluice gate on Akmal Ali road under EPZ police station on Wednesday and Thursday.
On November 15, Alina Islam Ayat went missing from her home in the Bandartila Nayarhat Electricity Office area while on her way to a nearby mosque to study Arabic.
The following day, her father, Sohel Rana, filed a report at EPZ police station.
After analyzing CCTV footage, the PBI announced the arrest of Abir Ali, a tenant of Ayat's family, after nine days of the incident, on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
The PBI claimed that the accused Abir confessed to killing Ayat. He strangled Ayat while attempting to kidnap her to collect a ransom of Tk15-20 lakh.
Later, the police remanded Abir for two days for the first time on Saturday. At that time, the PBI carried out a sting operation in the Sagarpar area beside Akmal Ali road, in order to recover Ayat's dismembered body.
Abir was then remanded for seven days in the second phase on Monday.
On Tuesday, during the first day of remand in the second phase, the court granted Abir's parents remand for three days.
