Farmer dies in wild elephant attack in Netrokona

A farmer in Netrokona died after attempting to drive wild elephants away from a cropland on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Nurul Islam, 35.

A group of wild elephants vandalized a cropland in the Bedgara border area on Tuesday morning. At that time, villagers went to the field with the torches to drive away the elephants and protect the crops, said Kalmakanda police station OC Abdul Ahad.

The locals managed to escape when the wild elephants chased them, but Nurul Islam was severely injured, he added.

Nurul was taken to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced him dead.
