A mobile court of the Department of Environment has cut off gas and electricity supply to four factories in Araihazar and Rupganj upazilas of Narayanganj as they were carrying out their operations without effluent treatment plants (ETPs).
Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamjid Ahmed of the DoE led the operation on Tuesday and took action against the factories.
Of the four companies, Mayer Doa Dyeing (Roman New Colour Dyeing), Mariam Textile and Sadika Textile are in Duptara union of Araihazar upazila, while Kamal Steel Mills (Waqif Metal Industries) is in Rupganj.
The factories had not been using ETPs for a long time, said Abdullah Al Mamun, deputy director of the DoE's Narayanganj office.
The four factories were polluting the water and environment of Brahmaputra and Shitalakkhya rivers by not using ETPs disobeying DoE directives.
