19 Jamaat leaders arrested in Mymensingh

The police have arrested 19 leaders and activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami during a meeting at a restaurant in Mymensingh.

Acting on a tip-off, the law enforcement agency arrested the 19, including Jamaat Mymensingh unit Amir Mozammel Huq, at Saltanat Restaurant in the city’s Charpara area on Saturday evening, said Kotwali model police station OC Shah Kamal Akand. 

The other arrestees are Osman Goni, Azizur Rahman, Ferdous Alam, Al Amin, Delwar Hossain Kuddus, Tajul Islam, Md Asaduzzaman, Shahin Khan, Mahmudul Hasan Shahin, Mahabubul Hakim, Mehedi Hasan, Sarwar Hossain, Alamgir Hossain, Md Nafij, Abu Hanif, Fazlul Karim Farooqi, Sheikh Ahmed Afifa and Nurul Haq. 

“Jamaat leaders and activists tried to bring out a procession in the morning but the police foiled their plan. Later, in the evening, they went to Saltanat Restaurant and were holding a secret meeting,” added the OC. 

“They were planning to spread anti-government propaganda and carry out acts of vandalism,” he said, adding that the arrestees would be sent to court after interrogation.
