The depression over the East-Central Bay and adjoining areas has moved slightly northwestwards and intensified into a deep depression on Sunday.
It is also likely to morph into a cyclone, reports Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday.
The deep depression lays over the same area about 900km south-southwest of Chittagong port, 730km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 775km south of Mongla Port and 730km south of Payra port.
it is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction. The sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre, the report says.
“Under the peripheral effect of the deep depression, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh are likely to experience the gusty or squally wind of 40-50kph in addition to the heavy to very rainfall,” reads the BMP report.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no three.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter immediately and remain there till further notice.
The low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagherhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Noakhall, Feni, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind-driven surge height of 03-05 feet above normal astronomical tide.
