He is a “mysterious man”!
For almost a year, Mansurul Alam, an assistant teacher at a Dakhil madrasa in Barguna, has not visited the institution on a single day. He has signed the attendance sheets from home due to bad health, as per the medical certificates that cited various ailments. Content with the reports, the madrasa super helps him draw the government salaries and allowances regularly.
During this time, Mansurul was also busy with the local Union Parishad election for several months; he contested for the chairman post as an independent candidate, but lost.
He did not take leave during the election campaign and collected his three months' money together in July after submitting a medical report.
Even though he did not have his signature in the attendance book in September, he managed a handwritten medical certificate from a private clinic in Kalapara and collected the salary.
Taltali UNO has initiated an investigation after learning about the undue advantages the teacher has been enjoying for a year.
Mansurul is an assistant teacher at Dakshin Jharakhali Salehia Dakhil Madrasa under Karaibaria Union.
He has not taken any classes in the madrasa since January this year. But acting superintendent Maulana Abdul Jabbar has collected Mansurul’s signature by sending the attendance sheets to his house in time.
In this way, Mansurul has withdrawn Tk2.4 lakh in one year by signing at home.
Contacted, madrasa acting super Maulana Jabbar said he had approved Mansurul’s salaries and allowances on the basis of medical fitness.
Secondary Education Officer Lutful Kabir Md Kamruzzaman said, if a medical certificate was to be submitted, it should be issued by the district civil surgeon.
Taltali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Sadiq Tanveer said legal action would be taken after investigation if the allegations were found to be true.
Dhaka Tribune reached the teacher over the phone. “I’m sick,” said a voice from the other side.
