The Cox's Bazar Development Authority (CBDA) has demolished several illegal buildings under construction in the city.
The drive was conducted on the plot of Beach Cooperative Society of Public Works in Cottage Zone area on Tuesday afternoon. CBDA Chairman Commodore (Retd) Nurul Abshar led the drive.
Members of the district police, Ansar and officials of related authorities and Executive Magistrate Abu Jafar Rashed were present. A week ago, the illegal slums in the cottage zone were also evicted.
Dhaka TribuneCommodore (Retd) Nurul Abshar later told reporters that in 1996, 7.5 acres of land was allocated in the name of Beach Cooperative Society by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. However, later in 1997, the ministry issued a revised allotment letter by allocating 5 acres of land instead of 7.5 acres.
At that time, Beach Cooperative Society accepted the revised allotment but petitioned the High Court to get two and a half acres of land. Later a civil review petition was filed but it was dismissed in 2019. As a result, the court ordered the eviction as the Beach Society had no right over the disputed 2.5 acres of land.
Dhaka Tribune“In view of this, an operation was conducted by the Cox's Bazar Development Authority to stop the construction of illegal structures,” he added.
He said the CBDA was working for the implementation of a planned city, and so everyone should follow the building rules and construct the buildings with approval.
