An army member was killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a CNG auto-rickshaw in Sherpur on Saturday.
Four others were injured in the incident that took place in front of Gauchia Rice Mill near Tatalpur Bazar under Sadar Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Humayun Kabir Hannan, who was working in Khagrachhari. He hails from Sreebordi Upazila.
Kabir came home two months ago for treatment and was supposed to go to Khagrachhari on Saturday evening to join work.
As he needed to buy a travel bag, Kabir went to Sherpur. On his way back home, his motorcycle collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw and fell into a paddy field.
He died on the spot while the four passengers of the auto-rickshaw were injured.
Police and locals rescued the injured from the spot and sent them to District Sadar Hospital. One of the injured in critical condition has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College. Another injured is undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital while the two others returned home with first aid.
The motorcycle and the CNG were taken to the police station. The CNG driver, however, managed to escape.
