Bullet-riddled bodies of four people found by river in Bandarban

The bodies of four people with gunshot wounds were found next to the Sangu River in Bandarban, whom the police say died during a shootout between two armed groups.

Locals at Rowangchhari upazila’s Phalangkyang spotted the bodies on Sunday morning and reported to the authorities, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Jerin Akhter.

“We suspect they died in a shootout between two groups, said the Bandarban police chief before adding that the victims’ identities were yet to be confirmed.

Local people said the four persons were abducted by some activists of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS).

Local people also believe that the deceased were members of Mog National Liberation Party (MNLP).

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

On Saturday, a former activist of the PCJSS was shot dead in Rowangchhari Upazila.

A group of armed men shot Anumang Marma, 45, and fled the scene along with the body.
