Three dead, two missing as ferry sinks in Barisal

Fire service and naval police officials have recovered the bodies of three people who died after a ferry carrying 30 passengers capsized in the Arial Kha River off the coast of Barisal in the early hours of Wednesday. 

Two people are still missing from the accident. 

Officials have identified two of the bodies recovered. They are—Jahid and Abdul Kuddus. 

Khorshed Alam, station officer of the Barisal Naval Fire Service said the vessel sank around 1am off the coast of Nalchar in Char Monai union.

"Fire service officials rushed to the spot and started rescue operations as soon as they were alerted of the incident," he said.

Hasnat Zaman, officer-in-charge of Barisal Naval sadar police station said the ferry was carrying people from Sirajganj to Char Monai Mahfil.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Azimul Karim told Dhaka Tribune that the bodies were being sent to Sirajganj.
