GCC polls: Awami League candidate Azmat Ullah confident of victory

Awami League mayoral candidate Azmat Ullah Khan expressed his optimism to win the polls in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Thursday.

He said: “If the almighty wants, I will bag victory and become the next mayor.”

The veteran Awami League leader made the statement after casting his vote at Tongi Darus Salam Madrasa on Thursday morning.

He expressed his satisfaction about the election environment and process.

Balloting for 57 wards of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) began at 8am on Thursday. 

The voting will take place via electronic voting machines (EVM) at 480 centres till 4pm.

There are a total of 1,179,000 listed voters in Gazipur city, which sees its third election on Thursday.

Members of different law enforcement agencies, including police, Ansar and village police, Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are on the ground across the city.
