Chittagong University (CU) Chhatra League has withdrawn its indefinite blockade over the extension of the Chhatra League's full committee.
The blockade was withdrawn at 11:30pm on Monday after receiving direction from Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, the protesters said.
Another group, followers of Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, also withdrew the blockade
Shuttle train service, as well as university-bound traffic, resumed in the morning after the blockade had been lifted.
On Monday morning, they blocked the main gate by blocking shuttles and buses in the morning demanding the extension of the committee.
About the withdrawal of the blockade, CU Chhatra League Vice President Pradip Chakraborty Durjoy said: “Under the guidance of our leader AJM Nashir Uddin, we have withdrawn this blockade to protect the environment of education. He said that he will talk to the Central Chhatra League about our demands.”
Dr Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan, proctor of the university, said that the situation was under control. The bus and shuttle train movement of teachers, officials and employees was normal. “The authorities will make their decision on the blockaders on Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, CU acting registrar Prof SM Monirul Hasan said the main gate of the university and the transport office cannot be put under lock and key from now on.
The university administration will issue a notice in this regard. “The administration will take action if anyone locks the main gate,” he added.
Earlier on August 1, BCL activists, who didn't get any posts in the new committee, enforced a blockade programme halting classes and exams of the university following announcement of the full committee of the unit.
After three years, the full committee of the CU unit of BCL was announced on July 31.
