ACC summons Cox’s Bazar lawmaker, family members

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Zafar Alam, the ruling party lawmaker representing the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, and three of his family members over allegations of illegally accumulating wealth through abuse of power.

In a letter issued on August 24, the ACC asked them to submit their wealth statements in person at its integrated district office in Cox's Bazar by 11am on Sunday.

The three others are Zafar’s wife Shaheda Begum, son Tuhin Alam and daughter Tania Afrin.

The four stand accused of land grabbing, illegal sand lifting, extortion and controlling drug syndicates.

The ACC in its letter also asked them to bring in their passports, NID cards and bank statements on Sunday.

Zafar is president of the Awami League’s Chakaria upazila unit, while his wife is an assistant teacher at the local Palakata Government Primary School.
