Nearly 45,000 people in Rangpur have been marooned as fresh floods inundated new areas in the northern district.
A total of 36 villages in Gangachara Upazila have been flooded. Villagers struggling with food and clean water complained they are yet to get any relief material.
According to the Water Development Board (WDP), the water level at River Teesta flowed 31cm above danger mark at 9am on Tuesday.
Moreover, it flowed 28cm above the danger mark at Rangpur Gangachara point. The water level at Dalia Barrage point is flowing 31cm above danger mark and it is likely to increase.
According to Rangpur WDB Executive Engineer Ahsan Habib the water levels are expected to rise over the next 48 hours.
The continuous downpour combined with the downwards hill slope from India has caused the water levels in the Teesta to rise.
Gangachara UNO Ershad Uddin has announced all schools in the six unions around Teesta to shut down academic activities.

The school buildings are being used as shelter and all marooned people have been asked to take shelter in there.
Up until Monday night, announcements were made, asking marooned people to take shelter on raised lands of shelters along with their livestock.
According to Laxmitari Union Parishad Abdullah Hadi, all the char villages in his union are three foot under water.
UNO Ershdad Uddin said that an emergency control room has been established and medical teams are ready to aid the flooflood-affected.
