7 killed, 20 injured in bus-truck collision in Natore

At least seven people were killed and 20 others injured in a three-way collision between two buses and a truck at Baraigram upazila in Natore on Saturday.

The tragic accident took place in front of Bonpara Gazi Auto Rice Mill on Bonpara-Dhaka Highway around 11:15am.

According to witnesses, the two buses fell into a ditch when a Rajshahi-bound National Travels and a Natore-bound Siam Paribahan collided with a truck parked on the side of the road, leaving six people dead on the spot and 20 others injured. 

Baraigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Siddique said that another died at a local hospital, taking the toll to seven. 

Upon receiving the news, Bonpara Fire Service and Highway Police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

The injured are now undertaking treatment at different hospitals.

Didarul Alam, assistant director of the Rajshahi Range of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the deceased included two women and five men.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Ahmed allocated Tk25,000 to each family of the deceased.

A five-member inquiry committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Rahima Khatun, has been formed to probe the cause of the accident. It has been asked to submit a report within two days.
