There will be no traffic jam on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway caused by condition of the roads, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Md Nazrul Islam has assured.
Gorai Flyover in Tangail and Nalka Bridge in Sirajganj will be opened to traffic on April 25, well ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, to ensure fluent traffic movement on the highway, Nazrul told the media in Tangail on Saturday.
Traffic pressure on the highway will be reduced if the vehicles are diverted to the alternative routes, he said.
“There will be a central control room… There will be CCTV cameras at different points. The police have also taken special measures,” the secretary said.
Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Md Nazrul Islam speaks to reporters in Tangail on Saturday, April 23, 2022 Dhaka Tribune“The pressure of homebound people will increase manifold this time around after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have taken preparations keeping that in mind,” he added.
Traffic jams during Eid journeys on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway is not uncommon. The 13-kilometre stretch from Elenga to the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge especially causes a lot of suffering to drivers and passengers alike.
Some 12,000-13,000 vehicles use this bridge every day, and that number shoots up to 35,000-45,000 before Eid, resulting in long tailbacks.
