Authorities in Chittagong have fined a bus counter of Hanif Paribahan for overcharging passengers ahead of Eid journeys.
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Wednesday slapped the counter Tk100,000 as fine for overcharging passengers Tk300 than the usual bus fare ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Mohammad Foyez Ullah, assistant director of DNCRP, Chittagong District Office, led the mobile court in the city's Kadamtali area in the afternoon and caught the salesperson at the counter red-handed while demanding extra fare from passengers.
The team also fined Shyamoli Paribahan Tk10,000 for not showing the fare chart.
The drive was aimed at bringing some relief to passengers collecting tickets for Eid journeys as there are allegations that some transport companies are overcharging passengers cashing on the extra demand for tickets.
