The family members of a housewife, murdered on April 3 for refusing to pay extortion money in Kashipur area of Barisal, say they are currently living under constant fear of being attacked by the murderers.
Gias Uddin, the husband of the woman named Afia Khatun, sued four persons in a case in this connection. Since then, the accused have been asking them to withdraw the case and issuing them life threats.
The accused are Miraj Mistry, 40, Tauhid Hossain Manu, 40, Nipu Aktee, 25, Jumman Hossain, 30 – all residents of Kashipur Fishery Road area.
Gias, a retired police sergeant, said that his two daughters had to stop going to school for fear of being killed.
Kamolesh Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barisal airport police station, said: "We are continuing our efforts to arrest the killer and his accomplices."
Meanwhile, Gias alleged that he came under attack by accused Manu's elder brother Humayun Kabir on April 8.
Manu and Kabir's cousin brother, Kalam Mollah – a local ward councillor, also threatened Gias and asked him to withdraw the case.
According to locals, Manu is a listed drug dealer in Kashipur area and there are multiple cases filed against him in local police stations.
