A nor’wester brought havoc in Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram on Sunday, damaging at least 60 houses,
The nor’wester hit Nayahat union in the early hours of Sunday, said Local Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abu Hanifa, reports Bangla Tribune.
However, no casualties were reported in the storm.
According to local people, the storm approached the area all of a sudden after morning prayers.
The houses of at least 60 families in the union were immediately damaged by strong-turbulent wind. Two school buildings were also damaged.
Chairman Abu Hanifa said: “The storm had caused extensive damage in the union. The matter has been reported to the higher authorities.”
Sabur Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rajarhat Meteorological Observatory, said they recorded 111 mm of rain in the district in the last 24 hours till noon on Sunday.
