The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a teenager over the rape of a nine-year-old madrasa student in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong.
Nineteen-year-old Mohammad Shahin was arrested from the Bariarhat Bazar area on Wednesday, said RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mohammad Nurul Abshar.
On March 23, the rape survivor, a student of a local madrasa, returned home at around 2pm after attending classes, while her parents were at work.
Soon after, Shahin, a neighbour of hers, took her to his place by tempting her with a toy, before raping her.
When she started screaming, Shahin fled the house before the arrival of locals, who later informed the child's parents about the incident.
The child has been receiving treatment at the onc-stop crisis centre of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
RAB official Nurul said her father filed a rape case with Sitakunda police station on March 27.
Shahin confessed to raping the girl during the primary interrogation and was turned over to Sitakunda police, he added.
