Wife of tea seller gives birth to quadruplets in Comilla

The wife of a tea seller has given birth to quadruplets -- one female baby and three male babies – in a case of rare delivery in Comilla.

Shirin Akhter, mother of the quadruplets, had been admitted to a private hospital in Comilla with labour pain under the care of Dr Nazma Majumder Lira on Wednesday.

She gave birth to the quadruplets in the night, said Shirin’s husband Saiful Islam, a tea seller.

Shirin is a housewife. The couple has a seven-year-old girl.

On Friday, Dr Nazma said: “I was trying from the beginning to solve the case with normal delivery but the position of Shirin’s first child was not good and she delivered through surgery during her first pregnancy.”

“So she had to undergo surgery for safe delivery this time too.”

Saiful, who runs a small tea stall at a local market to bear the expenses of his family, is at a loss.

“I’m happy that I’ve got three sons and a daughter after long seven years.

“But it’s worrying for me because I’m a poor man and carrying expenses of the family only by selling tea will be tough.”

On this matter, Dr Nazma said they would try to do whatever possible to lessen the financial burden of the poor family.
