‘Banglar Samriddhi’ crew member Hadisur buried in Barguna

The Ukraine-war victim Hadisur Rahman has been laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard amid mourning by his grief-stricken relatives and friends in Kadamtala village of Barguna.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at 10am on Tuesday at his village home in Betagi upazila . A doa mahfil was also arranged after the burial, which was  attended by hundreds of people of the village.

Villagers thronged the courtyard of his house to get a last glimpse of Hadisur after the freezer van carrying his body reached his home around 10:45pm on Monday. His family members broke down as they saw the body after 12 days of getting the news of his death.

A Turkish Airlines flight carrying Hadisur’s body landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12.30pm on Monday, and after all the formalities were done, a freezer left with the body for Barguna around 2pm on Monday.

Barguna 1 MP Advocate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu said that he will talk about the helpless situation of Hadisur’s family and arrange employment for his brothers.

A delegation led by Captain Atiqur Rahman, commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy in Barisal, attended the funeral of Hadisur Rahman.

Consoling the family members of Hadisur, Captain Atiqur said Hadisur went to the ship for the welfare and prosperity of Bangladesh. “We promise to comfort his bereaved family as well as stand by their side.”

Hadisur was the second child among three sons and a daughter of Abdur Razzak. Hadisur worked on “Banglar Samriddhi” for seven years.

On March 3, Hadisur, the third engineer of the Bangladeshi vessel, was killed in a rocket attack on the ship stranded at Ukraine’s port Olvia.

Hadisur’s body was preserved in a bunker near Ukraine as the procedure to bring it back was delayed due to the worsening situation in Ukraine.

Hasidur’s remains were scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday from Romania via Istanbul but the flight carrying the body failed to take off on time due to a heavy snowstorm in Istanbul.

Earlier on March 9, the 28 surviving crew members of the Bangladeshi ship, who had been stranded in war-torn Ukraine, arrived in Dhaka. They went from Ukraine to Moldova, eventually reaching  Bucharest, Romania, from where they flew to Dhaka.

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) ship had been stranded at Olvia port since February 23, following Russia's invasion of its eastern European neighbour.
