A Comilla resident has filed a case against e-commerce company E-orange for embezzling Tk39,681,311 from customers.
Saiful Islam, of Kaptanbazar area of Comilla Nagar, filed the case with the First Cognizance Court on Sunday evening.
Narail Awami League MP and former national cricket team captain Mashrafe bin Murtaza and five others from E-orange have been made defendants in the case, reports the media.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Masudur Rahman took cognizance of the case and asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit an investigation report within November 18.
The case statement says that 39 customers paid Tk39,681,311 to E-orange on different dates to buy various products including motorcycles.

However, the company did not deliver the goods on the due date. They even stopped all official activities, which forced customers to file the case, read the statement.
On August 16, one of the consumers, Taherul Islam, lodged another case with Gulshan police station along with 37 others, who testified against the owners of the platform.
According to the case details, the owners of E-orange, Sonia Mehjabin, her husband Masukur Rahman, Amanullah, Bithi Akhter, and Kawser, stand accused of embezzling a total of Tk1,100 crore.
On August 17, a Dhaka court sent two of the owners of the online marketplace -- Sonia Mehjabin and her husband Masukur Rahman -- to jail rejecting their bail prayers.
On August 19, police arrested its Chief Operating Officer Amanullah in connection with the embezzlement case.
The two owners and the CCO have been remanded for five days starting on August 22.
