Rangpur sees 12 more Covid deaths

Rangpur Division recorded 837 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours between Monday and Tuesday morning, marking a rise in daily infections.

During the same period, the division also recorded the deaths of 12 more Covid-19 patients across seven of eight districts under it, said Dr Motaharul Islam, the divisional health director.

Of them, four died in Rangpur, two each in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon, and one each in Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha -- bringing the division’s death toll to 866.

The division saw 412 Covid-19 deaths, including 32 women, over the past 27 days -- marking an alarming rate.

Dr Islam said the latest number of single-day cases were detected after testing 3,109 samples between Monday and Tuesday mornings.

He said the latest data also took the Infection rate to 26.92%.

So far, 224,954 samples have been tested in the division and 41,581 of them had come back as positive. At the same time, 31,438 patients also recovered.

According to health officials, the infection rate is climbing alarmingly mostly in Dinajpur, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram -- all frontier districts.

Dr Islam said the cases were increasing as people were not wearing masks and flouting health safety rules.
