At least three people, including a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader, died reportedly after drinking excessive liquor in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.
The deceased have been identified as Zahid Hasan Babu, 32, the organizing secretary of upazila unit Chhatra League and younger brother of Masudur Rahman, chairman of Pirojpur union council, Md Mohsin, 23, son of Moktar Miah of Meghna Kadirganj area and Md Tofazzal, 40, son of Siddique of Jainpur area.
The victims fell sick while drinking liquor at a Zahid’s private office in front of Holcim Cement Factory in Meghna Ghat area of Sonargaon upazila on Friday night, confirmed Selim Reza Sonargaon Upazila Pirojpur Union Parishad member.
Locals rescued them in critical condition and admitted them to a hospital. Three people were reported dead by Saturday afternoon. The condition of the rest is also alarming.
In this incident, two others identified as Md Jisan and Md Rahim are undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Sonargaon police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said an investigation was underway.
