Dense fog halts traffic on Bangabandhu Bridge

Traffic on the Bangabandhu Bridge halted on Tuesday night as authorities had to stop toll plazas on the bridge due to dense fog.

The postponement caused a 15 kilometres traffic jam from the eastern end of the bridge to Pungli of Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway.

Elenga highway police outpost in-charge inspector Kamal Hossain said the authorities stopped vehicular movement to avoid road accidents.

The tailback began forming on the bridge at night when an accident took place around 1.5am on the highway due to dense fog.

Vehicular movement almost came to normal after 12.50pm, he said.

Hundreds of vehicles got stranded at both ends of the bridge. Drivers and passengers, especially women and children, are the worst victim of the tailback.
