Ferry services on Shumulia-Banglabazar and Paturia-Daulatdia resumed about 11 hours after it was suspended from early Tuesday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Shafayet Ahmed, manager [Trade] of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said the ferry services remained suspended from around 12:00am and was resumed at 11:00am on Shimulia-Banglabazar river route.
Due to dense fog four ferries had gotten stuck in the middle of the Padma River, causing immense suffering to the passengers, but now have reached their destination.
"Currently, 13 ferries are operating in the route with eight of them leaving the dock for their first trip in the past hour. At the moment about 500 vehicles are waiting to cross, added Shafayet, when this correspondent contacted him around 12pm.
Ferry services on the route have been disrupted for the last three days due to poor visibility caused by dense fog in the advent of winter season.
Md Shahadat Hossain, assistant director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, said: "Generally launch and speedboats after their last trip in the night, begin their operation in the route from 7am in the morning.
"However, they had to begin their services four hours late. Altogether 87 launches and 400 speed boats have been providing services there everyday."
Meanwhile, ferry services at resumed 11.5 hours after it was suspended around 11pm on Monday due to the same reason on Paturia-Daulatdia.
Zillur Rahman, Deputy General Manager (acting) of BIWTC Aricha sector confirmed the matter.
