DNA report has confirmed the involvement of the accused in the case filed over the gang rape that took place at Murari Chand (MC) College, Sylhet, on September 25, confirmed a source from police seeking anonymity.
The investigating officer of the case received the report on Sunday, over two months after the incident, confirmed Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) BM Ashraf Ullah Taher of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
He said efforts were being made to file a chargesheet as soon as possible after receiving the DNA report. However, he could not provide details about what is in the report.
"The DNA report is positive," a Shahparan police source said on condition of anonymity. According to the source, police have thus far been unable to file the chargesheet of the case as no DNA report had been received prior to Sunday.

According to the case statement filed by the rape-survivor’s husband, when he stopped his car at the front gate of MC College to buy some cigarettes, the accused in the case started harassing his wife. Later the accused drove the couple to the college hostel where they committed the heinous crime.
On September 25, the husband filed the rape case at Shah Poran police station accusing the six (with names mentioned) and another two to three unnamed men.
The six accused initially named in the case were Rony, Mahfuzur, Robiul, Arjun Lasker, Tarekul Islam alias Tarek, and Saifur.
One Ainuddin and Md Rajon were later named in the case. All of the accused gave their confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after they were taken to remand.
All of them are Chhatra League activists.
