Police on Saturday arrested a man on charges of killing his mother in Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj.
Delwara Begum, 55, was strangled to death as she reportedly refused to give money to her son for his drug addiction, according to her neighbours.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Saiful, 32, a resident of Singlabo area in Golakandail union, Rupganj, confirmed Rupganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan.

According to locals, Saiful often used to beat his mother, demanding money for his drug addiction. On Saturday evening he was beating Delwara when locals rushed outside their door hearing her scream.
Locals broke open the door, when all of a sudden everything went quiet, and found Delwara's body in the bathroom. They then detained Saiful while he was having a smoke outside the house after the incident. Upon receiving the information from locals, police recovered Delwara’s body and arrested Saiful.
Rupganj police OC Mahmudul Hasan said the body has been sent to Victoria General Hospital in Narayanganj for an autopsy.
