A Lalmonirhat court granted remand for Muezzin Afiz Uddin, an accused in the murder case of Shahidunnabi Jewel, who was lynched over accusation of Quran desecration made by agitated mob of thousands in Patgram, Lalmonirhat.
Confirming, Lalmonirhat District Detective Branch (DB) Police OC Omar Farooq said the court of Lalmonirhat Senior Judicial Magistrate Ferdousi Begum granted a five day remand for the muezzin on Sunday.
Muezzin Afiz Uddin has been identified as the son of Foumuddin of Islampur village in Burimari union.
On Saturday, Abul Hossain, the main accused in the murder case of Shahidunnabi Jewel testified at court.
So far 34 people have been arrested in three separate cases.

On October 29, Shahidunnabi Jewel was beaten to death at the Burimari Bazar Central Jame Mosque in Patgram Upazila for allegedly insulting the Qur’an. His body was later burnt.
Jewel, son of Abdul Wazed Mia of Shalban Rokeya Sarani area in Rangpur. He was a former librarian of Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College.
