The National University authorities have suspended the studentship of the four accused in the case of gang rape in Sylhet's Murari Chand (MC) college.
The decision came at a meeting of the syndicate of National University on Monday, said Prof Md Saleh Ahmed, principal of Sylhet's MC College, adding that previously he had submitted an application in this regard to the university with which his college is affiliated.
The four accused were Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, Robiul Hasan and prime accused Saifur Rahman. Among the four, only Mahfuzur had been a student of the MC college.

According to the case filed by the woman's husband, he stopped his car at the front gate of MC College to buy some cigarettes. At that time, the accused in the case started teasing his wife. Later the accused drove the couple to the college hostel where they committed the heinous crime.
The husband of the victim filed the case on September 25 with Shah Poran police station accusing the six named and 2-3 unnamed men.
The six accused initially named in the case were Rony, Mahfuzur, Robiul, Arjun Lasker, Tarekul Islam alias Tarek, and Saifur.
One Ainuddin and Md Rajon, were later named in the case. All of the accused gave their confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after they were taken to remand. All were Chhatra League activists.
