Case filed over killing Chittagong schoolboy in ‘crossfire’

A case was filed on Wednesday in connection with allegations of the killing a schoolboy in a crossfire at chittagong.

The deceased was identified as Joynal Abedin, 16, a tenth grader student of the Textile Vocational Institute under the Technical Education Board.

The deceased’s mother Johra Begum lodged the case with Chittagong Additional District Magistrate Mohiuddin Murad. Six people, including former ward councillor and a police official, were made accused in the murder case.

The court ordered the Deputy Commissioner (North) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Detective Branch to investigate the case.

The accused are: immediate past ward councillor of Panchlaish Mobarak Ali, former sub-inspector of Bayezid Bostami police station Golam Md Nasim, personal secretary to the former ward councillor Md Shamshu, police informants Md Forkan, Illias and Mithun Kumar Dey.

According to the case documents, a group of boys were engaged in a fight at Amin Jute Mill area on August 31, 2019. Later, a team from Bayezid police station picked up the Abedin from his house in connection with the incident.

Two days later, the schoolboy died in the hospital after sustaining injuries in an alleged gunfight.
