Madrasa super arrested for raping female student in Kushtia

A female madrasa student has allegedly been raped by the institution's superintendent in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia.

The incident took place at Sirajul Ulum Mariam Nesa Madrasa in Swarupdah Chakpara early Sunday. 

Police arrested Maulana Abdul Quader, the superintendent of the institution, Monday night.

Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Kalam said Quader called the girl, a resident student of the madrasa, to his room after Fazr prayers on Sunday and raped her. 

He also threatened the girl not to disclose the matter.

The girl informed one of her classmates on Monday morning. 

When the incident got leaked, locals and madrasa students laid siege to the institution and staged demonstrations demanding exemplary punishment of Quader. 

The OC said they apprehended Quader based on the complaint filed by the rape survivor's father.

The girl has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital for a medical test, he added.

Earlier on Sunday, police arrested a madrasa teacher in Narayanganj on charges of raping a male student for 15 days after sedating him with sleeping pills.
