A Cox's Bazar court has placed Constable Rubel Sharma on a 7-day remand in connection with the murder of retired major Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
The remand was granted in response to a 10-day remand prayer for the accused from Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah on Wednesday.
Md Khairul Islam, assistant superintendent of police and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, confirmed the matter.
Rubel Sharma was produced in court around 11:30am on Wednesday. After the hearing, he was taken to Cox's Bazar jail in a police prison van from the court premises at around 1:20pm.
Earlier on September 14, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested constable Rubel over his alleged involvement in the murder of Major Sinha and produced before the court. He has been in jail ever since.
Khairul Islam said Rubel’s name came up while another policeman accused in the case was being questioned in remand.
Suspecting his involvement in the case, RAB brought Rubel in for questioning. He was subsequently arrested after extensive interrogation.
On the night of July 31, Sinha was shot dead by police at Shamlapur police check post on Marine Drive in Teknaf's Baharchhara.
Sinha was on his way back to Nilima Resort in Himchhari after filming a video on Marishbunia hill in Teknaf.
On August 5, Sinha's sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with the Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against nine people, including Pradeep, suspended Baharchhara police outpost in-charge Inspector Liakat Ali, and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Nanda Dulal Raxit.
Investigation agency RAB arrested 14 people, including Rubel, in the murder case so far.
Twelve people, including six police personnel and three members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn), have given confessional statements in the case.
