Shop employee beaten to death in Chittagong

A shop employee was beaten to death, accused of theft in Chittagong’s Reazuddin Bazar under Kotwali police station.  

According to police sources, the incident occurred at Arafat Store in Reazuddin Bazar’s SS Tower on Monday afternoon.

The deceased, Ramjan Ali Russell, 22, was accused of stealing a few cartons of powdered milk, said police sources. 

Although Russell denied the allegations made against him he was brutally tortured for the alleged theft, by the employer and others. He then succumbed to his injuries, sources added.

Police have already arrested the shop owner’s younger brother and another employee of the shop in connection with the incident.

The arrested have been identified as, Arman, 28, and Yunus, 35.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Noble Chakma, assistant commissioner (Kotwali circle) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said: “The injury marks on the victim’s body suggest he was beaten to death.”

“The body has been sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy,” he added.
