Five people including a married couple were killed in separate road accidents in three districts on Thursday and Friday.
In Netrokona, a married couple was killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw at Tula Pabaoi area in Purbadhala upazila on Friday.
The deceased identified as Abul Kalam, 42 and his wife Ritu Akhtar, 30 were the residents of Southkandi village under Bishkakuni union of the upazila.
The injured auto-rickshaw driver Nur Uddin,35 was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the matter, Purbadhala police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) MD Tauhidur Rahman said:”The couple was going to the Shamganj on an auto-rickshaw at noon. At one point, a jaria-bound truck collided head-on with the auto rickshaw, killing Ritu Akhtar on the spot and injuring Abul Kalam and Nur Uddin.
“The injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Abul Kalam died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police have seized the truck, the official said.
In Madaripur, a four-year-old child was killed after an auto rickshaw ran over him at Aminuddin Hazi Kandi village under Kathalbari union in Shibchar upazila on Friday.
The deceased identified as Saim was the son of Salam from the village.
Shibchar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abul Kalam Azad said: “Saim was hit by an easy bike when he was returning home with his mother from the bazaar in the morning. He died while being taken to Faridpur Medical College. We have visited the scene and will take action if any complaint is filed.”
In Noakhali, Two people were killed and one injured in a road accident in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.
The accident happened in Anantapur of the upazila around 10pm on Thursday.
The deceased are Kamal, 35, from Debipur village of Nowazpur union of Noakhali Sadar upazila and the other 32-year-old man is yet to be identified.
Locals said a Feni district bound bus of Sugandha King Paribahan collided head on with a CNG auto rickshaw. The driver of the autorickshaw died on the spot while both passengers were severely injured.
The injured were rushed to Noakhali General Hospital where Kamal died while undergoing treatment.
Begumganj model police station Officer-in-Charge Harun-ur-Rashid confirmed the matter and said they have seized both the vehicles.
“Legal action will be taken for this incident,” he added.
