Madaripur DC among 6 sued for burning down dredgers

At least six people including Madaripur deputy commissioner (DC) have been sued reportedly for burning down four dredgers and damaging eight other machines belonging to two local earth-filling contractors.

Two separate cases were filed against Madaripur DC Dr Rahima Khatun and five others with the Madaripur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Tuesday afternoon.

Monir Sardar of village Daiyarchar and Sarwar Bepari of village Sadullah Beparikandi under Shibchar upazila filed the separate cases.

The accused are Madaripur DC Dr Rahima Khatun, ADC Md Zakir Hossain Bacchu, Shaibchar Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Rafiqul Islam, Union Assistant Land Officer Yusuf Hossain, Surveyor Md Rasel Hossain, and MLSS Babul Mia.

The plaintiffs of the cases stated they had started earth-filling work at Chowdhury Anisuddin Waqf Estate using their four dredger machines after receiving a work order. 

On August, 28, at about 1pm the accused people went to the Waqf Estate's land and burnt down four dredger machines and damaged eight other machines, which caused losses amounting to lakhs of taka to the contractors.

Hearing the case statement, Judge Mohammad Hossain of the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a report after investigating the matter.

Contacted, Madaripur DC Dr Rahima Khatun over phone, she said she don’t know anything regarding the case.
